This week in Baltimore: They Might Be Giants, The Stoop, Hare’s Breath Records Opening

The Stoop Storytelling Series at The Senator on October 25.

A Baltimore-based live show and weekly podcast that features the extraordinary true tales of “ordinary” people. The theme is “Getting it Wrong: Stories about Mix-ups, Mistakes, and Misunderstandings” and the stories range from the tale of a former Lost Boy of Sudan to a woman talking about her sexual assault and also to a stranger-than-fiction case of mistaken identity. The band for the evening, J Pope and The Hearnow, is one of Baltimore’s hottest acts.

Since its founding in 2006, The Stoop has featured the stories of nearly 2,000 Baltimoreans onstage — including Congressman Elijah Cummings, “Wire” creator David Simon and Senator Barbara Mikulski — and has been featured in The Washington Post and New York Times. The Stoop’s mission is to build community through the sharing of true, personal stories.

This season, The Stoop is offering a $15 STUDENT TICKET for mainstage shows at The Senator Theatre.

If you’re familiar with The Stoop, you know it’s an entertaining, inspiring and often unforgettable night out — live storytelling and live music in the beautiful Senator Theatre! Everyone in the audience has the chance to come onstage and share a story.

They Might Be Giants at Ram’s Head Live on October 26

After releasing a new record, I Like Fun, earlier this year, the band just put out a new single via Dial-A-Song — listen to instant TMBG classic “The Communists Have the Music” here.

35-years deep, Brooklyn’s freewheeling local heroes remain rock’s most original perpetual-motion machine. Now they are bringing you a brand new show, “An Evening with They Might Be Giants,” featuring two big sets. The show includes all-time favorites, along with an ever-shifting rotation of fresh rarities spanning their epic career and spur-of-the-moment improvisations that will delight even their exhausted road crew.

And now for the first time beyond NYC, they’re joined by show-stopping trumpet genius Curt Ramm (Nile Rogers, Bruce Springsteen).

Grand opening of Hare’s Breath Records on October 27

From ABC to ZZ Top, reggae to industrial, classic oldies to oddball instructional albums, Hare’s Breath Records is Baltimore’s newest source for used and new vinyl and cassette tapes. Located in Fells Point, overlooking the Broadway Market, Hare’s Breath Records celebrates its Grand Opening on Saturday, Oct. 27 with tricks and treats for all. The party starts at 10:30 a.m. and goes until 10 p.m. Wear a costume for an extra treat!

Having opened their door earlier this month, the unique shop, owned and operated by Kat and Matt Peach, features a constantly updated inventory of thousands of records. Local regulars enjoy finding something new with every visit. International visitors, as well as shoppers from up and down the East Coast, California and points in between, appreciate not only the vast selection but also the reasonable prices at Hare’s Breath Records.

And then there’s the personal service. The Peaches scour the East Coast to stock their shelves with both familiar favorites and one-of-a-kind finds. She’s Baltimore-born and he hails from Birmingham, England, but happily, their taste in music blends and complements the others. They know their stock and are eager to make suggestions or play “samples” — or just chat.

Hare’s Breath Records is located at 602 South Broadway. The shop is open every day of the week, from 10:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and Noon – 6 p.m. on Sundays.
