UMBC social justice, an alternative to sorority rush, and a race across campus

Critical Social Justice Week

Part of a year long campaign organized by The Women’s Center and Student Life’s Mosaic: Center for Culture and Diversity, the Critical Social Justice Initiative wrapped up last week. The initiative consisted of a week of events which aimed to “create space and learning opportunities to consider the ways we can cultivate deep and lasting commitments to Baltimore city.” Events included Baltimore 101: Why Baltimore Matters, Baltimore In Action: Always Rising and a walking tour of a Baltimore neighborhood.

PHA Fall Open House

UMBC’s Panhellenic Association is the governing body for five sororities on campus. In the University Center Ballroom on Monday night, PHA held a fall open house to help prospective future greeks become familiar with the different sororities on campus and to prepare for spring rush. Several sororities held back on fall recruitment this semester as they were at capacity for new members. The sororities in PHA are Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Kappa, Delta Phi Epsilon, Phi Mu and Phi Sigma Sigma.

Monster Dash

The first of two UMBC intramural races was held this week on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The race is a three kilometer “monster dash” starting at 5:30 p.m. The race is open to anyone within the UMBC community, including faculty, staff and students. Registration is free!
