Seu’s Tumblr casts negative tone

On April 14, SGA presidential candidate Michelle Seu posted on the social networking platform Tumblr regarding the impending election, stating that “students can only blame themselves if SGA ends up falling apart.” It reads as follows:

When asked to comment on the post, Seu said, “What I meant by my post was that I believe that voters should be informed. They should care about what the candidates are talking about on their platforms because SGA isn’t a joke. People running for these executive positions in SGA are handling real money – fees that top over $1 million – and real problems on campus. It’s the responsibility of the voters to do their research and vote wisely. Ultimately, the power is with the people.”

Seu describes her and her running mate Lizz Chen’s “Say ‘Hi’ Back!” campaign as “That All-Natural, Fresh, Organic Grassroots Campaign.” Their platform focuses on student health, the campus environment and student organizations. One of their more unique efforts is a student-run emergency health service, similar to the ones established at Georgetown and Virginia Tech.

The election’s voting hours will take place on Monday, April 20 through Wednesday, April 22 from 8 a.m. to noon, and 8 p.m. to midnight each day.

The restricted voting hours are a result of policy changes enacted by the Election Board in February in order to “disincentivize voter harassment and improve the Election Board’s enforcement capabilities.”

The Election Board’s official polling station on Commons Main Street will be open during the morning voting periods, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Editor’s note: this article has been amended; initially it stated that the Seu-Chen campaign’s main effort was the student run EMS program. This is not the case; the EMS program isn’t their main focus. The wording has been amended to reflect this.
