Sept. 30 Olympian swimmer Michael Phelps was arrested for drunk driving early Tuesday morning. Phelps was stopped by police after driving at 84 mph in a 45-mph zone.
Oct. 1 Police found two men shot in Baltimore’s Darley Park area Wednesday night. Neither their conditions nor the prospect of the two cases being related were released by police.
Oct. 2 A group of West Baltimore residents filed a lawsuit against the state of Maryland for tunneling related to the Red Line transit project conducted under their block. In addition to $22 million, the homeowners involved in the suit demanded that the tunneling related to the Red Line project in their area be discontinued.
Oct. 3 Ian Brennan, spokesman for the Baltimore City Fire Department, announced that he will be stepping down, citing a career change by his wife as his motivation for leaving for Washington, D.C. Brennan had previously served as a press secretary for Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and a spokesman for former Mayor Sheila Dixon before then.
Oct. 4 Two individuals were ruled negative for the Ebola virus after being quarantined and tested in separate Washington, D.C. hospitals. The cases are two of several recent Ebola-related incidents within the United States over the past week.
Oct. 5 The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Detroit Tigers, 2-1, to complete a three-game sweep and win the American League Division Series (ALDS). The Orioles will face the Kansas City Royals in the American League Conference Series (ALCS) in a bid for a World Series appearance.
Oct. 6
Mohammed Hamzah Khan, 19, is charged with one count of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. He was arrested at O’Hare Airport in Chicago before boarding a flight to Istanbul.
