Oct. 15 The findings of a George Mason University survey, released on Wednesday, revealed that a majority of Marylanders desire a greater share of their electricity to come from renewable energy sources. The survey was conducted with aid from the Climate Communication Consortium of Maryland, a network of environmental groups.

Oct. 16 Dockworkers at the Port of Baltimore briefly refused to load a vessel bound for West Africa, out of fear of the possibility of an Ebola infection. The workers agreed to work the vessel after those fears were proven unwarranted.

Oct. 17 Former Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts announced his retirement, ending a fourteen-year career in Major League Baseball (MLB). Roberts was drafted by the Orioles in the first round of the 1999 MLB supplemental draft, and was named an All-Star twice in his thirteen years with the Orioles.

Oct. 18 Over 25,870 people participated in the 14th Annual Baltimore Running Festival, which included a marathon, half-marathon, and 5k race. The marathon was won by 37-year old Brian Rosenberg of Mechanicsburg, PA.

Oct. 19 With the death of one of only two breeding male White Rhinos left in the world, the countdown to extinction has begun. There are now only six of the species left in captivity. There are no known White Rhinos left in the wild.

Oct. 20 After 42 days without a reported case, Nigeria has been declared ebola free, according to the World Health Organization.
