A preliminary hearing for a 21 year-old UMBC student charged with four counts of child pornography has been scheduled for January 22 at the District Court in Frederick. This was after being rescheduled this week, according to online court records.
Jake Tyler Patterson, a resident of Adamstown, Frederick County, was arrested on these charges on December 14 on UMBC campus by sheriff’s deputies from that county and assisted by UMBC police.
With the help of the FBI’s Baltimore field office, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department began investigating reports of a man sexually soliciting minors over the internet. This probe ended with Patterson’s arrest on the felony of child pornography charges last month, officials said.
Patterson was initially held without bail at the Frederick County Detention Center but was released on a $25,000 bond after a December 17 bail review hearing in District Court, according to online records.
Patterson’s preliminary hearing was previously set for January 15, but on Monday a district judge granted a motion to postpone the hearing a week, until Tuesday, January 22, records mention. Online court records do not identify a lawyer for Patterson, but do state that he is eligible for representation by the Office of the Public Defender.
