August 18
A man was found dead in Baltimore’s Carroll-Camden Industrial Area on Monday afternoon. According to the Baltimore Sun Police and fire department personnel pulled the body from the harbor at about 3:20 p.m. near the 300 block of Stockholm Street.
August 19 A 24-year old male was listed as being in critical condition after being assaulted and robbed on Wall Street in Baltimore. The victim, Sal Schittino, was found by police to have been stabbed multiple times and then robbed of his wallet by four teenagers early the previous morning.
August 20 A group of about 500 individuals stood before Baltimore’s City Hall to demonstrate their support for the protestors in Ferguson, MO, speaking out against the killing of 18-year old Michael Brown. The demonstrators called for a non-violent march along Light Street, as police monitoring traffic from bikes to facilitate the protests.
August 21 A 17-year old male was found dead, the victim of a shooting, in Northeast Baltimore, early Thursday morning. The young man, identified as Keith Powell, is the second 17-year old to have been gunned down in a two-day span.
August 22 The Baltimore Community Foundation announced the awarding of approximately $133,000 in grants to 33 community projects throughout Baltimore City and Baltimore County. The so-called Neighborhood Grants Program will provide money to projects ranging from litter cleanup to community vegetable gardening.
August 23 Baltimore City Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts stopped a violent altercation between two men running Bel Air Road at 2:30. One man surrendered to Batts and police, while the other was shot by police while attempting to flee the scene.
August 24 The Baltimore Basilica hosted an interfaith prayer service for the ongoing conflict in Iraq. According the the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Archbishop William E. Lori urged continued prayer for peace in Iraq even after the fighting faded from news headlines, and various local religious leaders denounced any violence by any organization in the name of religious doctrine.
August 25 Police have given the “all-clear” at Fort Lee, VA, after an active shooter had been reported earlier in the morning. The facility had been placed on lockdown. No additional details have been released at this time
