The terror group ISIS has taken to social media to spread its message. While using the hashtag #napaquake, viewers saw posts about the Northern California earthquake mixed with threats against the United States, attacks on President Obama and gruesome photos of dead American soldiers.

 

August 27

Burger King has agreed to buy Canadian coffee-and-doughnut chain Tim Hortons for more than $11 billion. The deal will create the world’s third-largest fast-food powerhouse. The newly combined company will have 18,000 restaurants in 100 countries.

 

August 28

President Obama acknowledged Thursday he doesn’t have a plan for defeating Islamist State militants in Syria and backed away from imminent military action. “We don’t have a strategy yet,” Mr. Obama said.

August 29

Malaysia Airlines will cut 6,000 workers as part of an overhaul announced Friday to revive its damaged brand after two passenger jet disasters. The layoff represents about 30 percent of Malaysian Airlines current workforce of 20,000.

August 30

The US Coast Guard has called off the search for a pilot whose small plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. The plane flew into Washington, D.C.’s restricted airspace, which prompted the scrambling of two Air Force jets. The pilot appeared to be unconscious as he flew east to the coast where he crashed.
