BREAKING: Ryan Odom is not leaving

The college basketball Twitter universe exploded on Saturday afternoon as some shocking rumors were spread. Multiple sources claimed that UMBC men’s basketball head coach Ryan Odom had agreed with a deal to coach Virginia Tech for next season. According to UMBC Athletics, those reports are not accurate.

The rumors seem to have originated from a tweet by Washington Post reporter Gene Wang. They circulated over Twitter throughout much of the day, with multiple news sources reporting that Odom would indeed be leaving the Retrievers to coach at Virginia Tech.

There are conflicting reports that sources close to Odom have indicated a potential plan for Odom to move to Virginia Tech, but those reports remain unsubstantiated at this time.

Odom has spent three years with the Retrievers. After the team failed to win more than nine games in the seven seasons prior to his arrival, Odom lead the team to three straight twenty-win seasons. He took UMBC to back-to-back postseason appearances including a semi-final appearance in the CIT, and the historic win that took place over Virginia in the NCAA tournament. His career record at UMBC currently sits at 67-37.

This is currently a developing news story and we will update as more information becomes available.
